Hailing from Chicago, guitarist Mark Goldenberg began his musical career playing in Chicago-area bands. While in Chicago, he studied at the Music Conservatory at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, formerly the Chicago Musical College. After joining a band, Mark landed a recording contract and headed to California. Since then, he has played for such notables as Al Stewart, Wendy Waldman, The Cretones, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Frampton, The Pointer Sisters, Chris Isaak, Ziggy Marley, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Eels, Natalie Imbruglia, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and more. Mark is a gifted songwriter whose creations have appeared in the repertoire of artists as diverse as the Pointer Sisters, Eels, Natalie Imbruglia, Olivia Newton-John, Chris Botti, Linda Ronstadt, and Chicago. A talented composer, Mark’s introspective works inspire listeners to look inward. His compositions are thought-provoking, yet meditative.
Mark studied piano and counterpoint with the renowned Los Angeles pianist, Abe Fraser. He also had the privilege of learning fingerstyle guitar from the legendary Ted Greene. Currently, Mark serves as the lead guitarist for Jackson Browne. He studies the classical guitar with LAGA’s Emre Sabuncuoglu.
Most recently, Acoustic Guitar Magazine interviewed Mark in its February 2012 edition. The interview included an online guitar lesson on chord voicings, demonstrating how an innovative use of reharmonization and drones can provide the perfect complement to a melody line. We are honored to have Mark as a guest instructor at Los Angeles Guitar Academy. He teaches a variety of styles, including classical, fingerboard harmony, ukelele, rock, pop, folk, blues, jazz, acoustic fingerstyle, and country.
